All fire extinguishers, regardless of type, must be inspected on a regular basis. This insures the structural integrity of the extinguisher and lets you know if it has been compromised in any way. In addition to a hands on examination, hydrostatic testing is also important. Hydrostatic testing involves submerging the extinguisher in a pressurized water bath to ensure there are no leaks and that the extinguisher still maintains its pressure capacity. Every extinguisher will have a tag on it noting the dates of the inspections. If you ever com across an extinguisher with out this tag, or that looks dinged, dented or damaged in any way, do not use this extinguisher. Replace it with a new one to ensure your safety.
