Before you use any fire extinguisher, sound the alarm and call the fire department. Identify possible evacuation routes. Then, select the right extinguisher. Although different extinguishers will extinguish different types of fires, they all operate in the same back way. The process is called PASS and refers to Pull, Aim, Squeeze, sweep. Pull the safety pin to unlock the extinguisher, Aim low towards the base of the fire, Squeeze the nozzle to release the agent, and Sweep the extinguisher back and forth. If needed, repeat steps 2 - 4 until the extinguisher runs out or the fire goes out. Then, evacuate immediately.
