Confined Space - Orientation
Work tasks can take place in every imaginable environment, from the interior of an office to operating machinery to the heights of a building. Yet one of the most dangerous places we can work isn't any of these. There's another workplace which can kill a worker in moments and is consistently underestimated for danger, that workplace is a confined space. With limited movement, minimal entry and exit options, and the lack of airflow, normal workplace tasks can become hazardous in seconds.
Even the simplest operation of a tool can create dangerous fumes, react or even combust in a sealed environment. Your knowledge and awareness of how these confined spaces should be handled, as well as the warning signs to look out for, are critical not just for working safely, but for your own survival.
How can we safely enter, operate and exit a Confined Space? What levels of monitoring should we have in place before entering a Confined Space? Are there any critical hazards to always be aware of?
