Ladder Safety 101 – Orientation
Ladders are so common, and so often used, that many people just grab a ladder and climb right up, unaware of the dangers they may be facing. Falls off ladders are one of the leading causes of workplace injury, so it is imperative that ladder safety is discussed in the workplace. This course will cover the following learning objectives:
DIFFERENT TYPES OF LADDERS
Ladders are needed in a variety of tasks, ranging from painting a roof, climbing into the attic, or ascending a building under construction; each of these tasks will require different type of ladder. Not only are there many different types of ladders, there are also different classes of ladders, from home use to industrial.
How a ladder is placed plays a huge role in its safety. Different types of ladders have different types of placement, from extension ladders that lean, to step ladders that form a triangle. Each ladder will also have a different weight capacity and a different safe height.
All ladders come with instruction books that should be read before use. Know the three point rule, the type of ladder you are using and be aware of any necessary precautions. Be sure to inspect your ladder every time you use it.
This course is 20 minutes and 55 seconds in length. All DVDs include additional training materials for print, including a leadership guide, course exam and course answer sheet.
