We are all different. How we sit, how we stand, how far we reach to use the keyboard. All of us are shaped differently, but most furniture and equipment is not. How you fit into your desk will be unique to you. Finding the right height, distance, and arrangement of equipment that fits you best is ergonomics. When you use it, work is effortless and easy. When you don't, you'll find yourself contorted, strained, and probably in pain. This pain can lead to serious medical conditions and loss of productivity. Luckily, applying the principles of Ergonomics is easy.

      Musculoskeletal Disorders

When you work with a contorted posture, it can lead to strains, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis. These Musculoskeletal Disorders occur from working with poor posture and repetitive actions. Your workstation and type of tasks play key roles in the prevention or exacerbation of these problems.

      Ergonomics

Ergonomics is practice of good posture, finding workstations that fit your specific height, of  learning where your specific desk to chair ratios is at, and learning how to work with postures  that reduce fatigue and assist in the flow of your activity.

      Workplace Conditions

How you sit, stand, reach, all play a role in your bodies health and comfort. You should always be able to reach the keyboard, phone, pencils and such with ease. You should not have to bend over to see the computer screen, or kink your neck to talk on the phone. Workplaces are one of the leading causes of injuries, especially when it is not tailored to your specific height and work needs.

      Hazard Control

You should always be aware of potential office hazards and the types of tasks that cause injury  and strain. Re-arrange your work space to fit your needs, adjust your chair, and use a headset  when talking on the phone. It is important to take breaks to stretch and move around at least  once an hour. If you need to, get a standing desk if it makes you more comfortable.
